Emerging Springbok lock Nico du Plessis said on Tuesday: “Expect a new Nico du Plessis in the 2010 rugby season.” Du Plessis is currently on a rehabilitation programme after an operation to his right shoulder a fortnight ago.

The former Western Province player joined the Boland Kavaliers at the beginning of the season, but injured his right shoulder in their pre-season preparation. He then returned home in Pretoria to recover.

Du Plessis, who was one of Chester Williams’ stars with the Emerging Boks in Romania last year, said he still has two months of rehabilition left before he could get back to serious training.

“By that time it is too far into the season. Therefore I’m preparing myself for 2010, expect a new Nico du Plessis then,” the 2 metre lock said.

“I’m currently doing well in the gymnasium, I’m feeling better and stronger by the day.” he added.

Du Plessis said he has no idea where he will be playing next season.

“I’m keeping my options open. Anything can happen between now and the end of the year,” he said.
