The Eastern Cape in South Africa will not be in the rugby wilderness too much longer. The region is set to get its own Super 14 franchise according to the SABC.

SA Rugby boss Oregan Hoskins and last year’s International Rugby Player of the Year, Bryan Habana, were in Port Elizabeth today to promote the game.

Hoskins says SA Rugby is laying the foundations for a franchise, but there’s no quick fix.

He is optimistic that an Eastern Cape outfit will become part of the Super 14 family, when SANZAR reviews the format of the competition and negotiates new broadcast rights in 2011.

For years, EP Rugby has been plagued by maladministration and mismanagement.

Hoskins says a considerable amount of money has been invested in the region, and it will soon start paying dividends on the field.
