“I was informed by e-mail a couple of days ago that we are welcome to join in. If this invitation is approved by SA Rugby it is fine with us.
“If we are part of the Border and Eastern Province set-up we would love to do an presentation on the future,” Cronje said.
Rumours earlier had it that SWD is not welcome in the Eastern Cape franchise and that they had to look somewhere else to settle down.
“At that stage we felt uncomfortable about the whole situation. There were rumours left, right and centre. But if we are wanted we will support them all the way. I’m sure SWD could make a huge impact,” Cronje said.
Earlier, SWD indicated that they would rather join the Stormers, but still has no replay from the Cape Town top brass. The Eagles also hope to sign four top players by next week.
“We are in the final stage of negotiating. Everything should be finalised next week,” a confident Cronje said.
The acquisitions could also play an important role in the new franchise’s aim to settle down quickly.
