The new-look Elephants had a too close-for-comfort Currie Cup  First Division 36-30 win over the bottom of the log Valke in Kempton park on Saturday afternoon.

The Valke could have produced a surprise victory had they had any reserves left for the last 10 minutes when they were forced to soldier on with 14 men.

The Elephants left with five points on the log and mission accomplished with four tries, all converted by Ryan Brown.

Former Cheetahs winger Howard Noble scored twice for the Elephants.

New Valke flyhalf Jonathan Jacobs made a huge difference with his boot and played a territorial game.

Valke coach Yagia Sakier said it was a 200% improvement from their previous game.
