Lions coach Eugene Eloff’s patience with the under-performing Rayno Benjamin has at last run out.

The Sevens Springbok’s axing for Saturday’s Super 14 match against the Hurricanes in Wellington is one of six changes to the side that lost to the Brumbies in the last move of the match, last weekend.

While the other new faces in this weekend’s team are because of injury to the incumbents, Benjamin’s poor handling and hesitancy under the high ball has finally caught up with him.

He is replaced by Dusty Noble. Louis Ludik, who has taken some heavy knocks, is being rested, with Jannie Boshoff moving from centre to wing in one of three positional switches.

He is replaced by Doppies le Grange, who is back at inside centre with Walter Venter moving to the outside. Another newcomer to the starting line-up is Franco van der Merwe, who comes in for the injured No 8 Willem Alberts.

Van der Merwe will pack down on the flank with Joe van Niekerk moving to No 8.

Lions team:

Earl Rose, Jannie Boshoff, Walter Venter, Doppies la Grange, Dusty Noble, Jaco van Schalkwyk, Jano Vermaak, Joe van Niekerk, Franco van der Merwe, 6 Cobus Grobbelaar (capt.), Gerhard Mostert, Dewald Senekal, JC Janse van Rensburg, Willie Wepener, Heinke van der Merwe.
