Rocky Elsom who is now without a manager says that he is prepared to risk taking a knock and devaluing his asking price by not rushing into any new contract for 2009 and beyond.

The ARU has revealed that their financials were not what they were and cutbacks will have to be made.

Elsom is a Waratah regular and his contract gets a “top-up” from the ARU but as they are being forced to cutback the values of those top-ups will have to be reduced.

Elsom,24, comes off contract after this year’s Super 14 and when he approached the ARU they suggested that he look overseas if wants to earn the big bucks.

“There’s always the risk if you let it go late into the Super 14 season, if you get injured then it’s going to affect you,” he told AAP.

“It’s going to affect your value in the next year and also a few other offers could come off the table in that time if you let it go too late.

“But I think that just playing well is my best option at the moment and (I’ll) take those risks and see how it goes.”

Elsom added that he was undecided if he would follow his Wallaby captain’s lead and approach Robbie Deans to discuss his contract situation.

If Deans has no plans for Elsom he would feel a lot more comfortable about taking a Big Bucks European contract.
