Erasmus names unchanged Cheetahs side for Highlanders

Free State Cheetahs coach Rassie Erasmus has named an unchanged team to take on the Otago Highlanders in round three of the Super 14 in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The Cheetahs have avoided serious injury thus far this season and Erasmus was able to name the same team which defeated the Sharks 27-26 in Durban last week.

Erasmus conceded that the only injury worry was that of Kamamba Floors, who is still battling to recover from a groin injury sustained in the bonus-point earning win in Durban.

Floors has been named in the team as has Ollie le Roux, who is also battling with a hamstring injury. “During the match (against Otago) we will be mixing the team much as we did against the Sharks,” said Erasmus.

The Highlanders are regarded, not just by pundits, but by the Cheetahs management as well, as the best scrummaging and lineout unit in the competition and it is in this area that the Cheetahs must try dominate.

If they do not secure primary first phase possession then the Highlanders’ dangerous backs could wreak havoc. “Otago has the best set-phases in the Super 14,” said Erasmus at a press conference on Thursday.

Team manager Naka Drotske agrees with his coach, “this will be our biggest test, you can tell from their body language they are used to dominating up front and other than a Bulls team with Victor Matfield, they are the best in the business,” said Drotske.
