Harlequins are said to be close to signing All Black stand-off Nick Evans as they aim to build on this season’s impressive showing in the Guinness Premiership.

Harlequins are still in with a good chance of making the Premiership play-offs and they have been the surprise package of the campaign under director of rugby Dean Richards.

With the likes of David Strettle, Will Skinner, Danny Care and Tom Guest they have some of the best young stars in English rugby at their disposal.

Evans is widely recognised to be the second choice No 10 for New Zealand with Dan Carter being the first choice although he too could be heading for Europe next season.

In his 15 Tests, 27-year-old Evans has scored 103 points and is playing some of the best rugby of his career.

He is currently playing in the Super 14 for the Blues after moving from the Highlanders last year but looks set to sign up at the Twickenham Stoop ready for next season according to The Daily Mail in England.
