Preview

The Lions were awful last week. The Blues were very good but they were assisted by a toothless Lion. This week the Force are a different challenge. The Lions will however go into this one confidently in spite of last week simply because they will know that they have never lost to the Force.

6.00: The Lions were the first to score as Louis Stydom kicked a penalty.


8:00 The Lions spent most of their time in posession of the ball bashing away at the Force.


11.00 : The Force then got the ball in the 11th minute and Cameron Shepherd was wide open and ran in untouched to score the Force’s first try.


12:00 Matt Giteau converted the try in the 12 minute.


14:00: The Force gave away a penalty in front of their posts so Louis Strydom slotted the penalty.


16:00 At the restart the Lions obstruct a player from tackling the man with the ball and a penalty is awarded to the Force.


17.00: Matt Giteau slots the penalty.


23.00 : The Force are starting to look a lot sharper and Tamaiti Horua scores a try in the corner. Ref, Kelvin Deaker goes to the TMO who has a look and says the try is good.


24.00: Matt Giteau misses the penalty.


26.00: The Lions go on the attack and look dangerous. Nathan Sharpe puts in a try saving tackle buts gives away a penalty and goes down injured. Eventually he gets up.


27.00: Louis Strydom takes the penalty kick and is successful.

 

30.00: The Lions make a break and Jaco van Schalkwyk scores a try under the posts.

 

32.00: Louis Stydom converts the try.

 

38.00 : The Lions get some good attacking ball but the ball goes forward.

 

40.33: The siren goes for half time.

48.00: The Lions looked to have scored the first points of the second half as Jano Vermaak broke through the Force defence. He went on to dot the ball down but didn’t hear the refs whistle.

 

53.00: The Lions give away a kickable penalty.

 

54.00: Cameron Shepherd takes the kick from 45m or so out and slots the penalty putting the Force back in front.

 

56.00: The Force do everything right as they work the ball up the field in the forwards but then give away a free kick.

 

59.00: The Force are controlling the ball a lot more and the Lions are defending well. The Force have turned the posession stats well into their favour at 60% after being down to about 40% in the first half.

 

65.00: The Lions give away a penalty in the middle of the field for coming in to the ruck at the side. Matt Giteau takes the penalty kick but misses.

 

70.00 : The Force attack for the fifth time on the right side of the field. Everytime they just come short of creating the overlap and it looks like it’s only a matter of time before the try comes off on that side.

 

73.00: The Force again attack on the right and again they come are bungled into touch.

 

74.00 : The Lions are being stopped from entering the Force’s half so that they can take  drop or get a penalty. The one time that they get the ball Earl Rose kicks it out on the full.

 

77.00: The Lions get a scrum towards the middle of the field. They take their time and eat up time – benefiting the Force!

 

79.00: The Lions get a scrum and it eats up more time. They run the ball but are brought to ground.

 

80.00: The siren goes.

 

80.30: Cameron Shepherd gets the ball and runs out as the whistle goes.
