New Australian Super 14 rugby franchise Western Force Thursday bolstered their ranks with two Queensland Reds forwards for their inaugural season next year.

Reds lock Rudi Vedelago and back-rower Luke Doherty signed with the Perth-based franchise following the completion of Queensland’s Super 12 commitments for this year.

They follow former Queensland skipper and Wallabies lock Nathan Sharpe, who will be the Force’s foundation captain under former All Blacks coach John Mitchell.

Vedelago and Doherty, who both played mostly off the bench in this season’s Super 12, become the 14th and 15th signings for the new team, which has lured a total of six Reds.

The Force’s other key signings are NSW Waratahs hooker Brendan Cannon and fly-half Lachlan MacKay.
