Gold set to coach Sharks in Super Rugby

Former Springboks Assistant coach Gary Gold looks set to succeed Jake White as Sharks Director of Rugby for the 2015 Super Rugby season.

White quit the Sharks after being with them for less than a year amid reports of growing discord between him, the players and the Sharks management.

Former Springbok head coach White has taken a consultancy position with Tonga for their end of year tour.

Forty-seven-year-old Gold was linked with the Sharks shortly after White’s departure along with Brendan Venter, John Mitchell and Nick Mallett.

Earlier this year Gold was named head coach of Japanese club Kobe Steel Kobelco Steelers.

The former Western Province and Bok forwards coach Gold is – according to reports – to be confirmed as White’s replacement in the coming days.

Current Sharks Currie Cup coach Brad MacLeod-Henderson and his assistants Paul Anthony and Sean Everitt will work under Gold next season.
