Peter Grant could be the Stormers’ only recognised flyhalf for February 16’s Super 14 rugby opener against the Bulls at Newlands following Isma-eel Dollie’s rib injury.

Dollie injured his ribs in a warm-up match against the University of Cape Town and could be sidelined for at least two weeks. This will leave the Stormers bench without a recognised pivot should Grant gets injured.

This comes as a huge dilemma for Rassie Erasmus’ side as Grant could now well be a target for the defending champions. “Yes, is it a huge disappointment as I could miss the Bulls and Sharks matches,” Dollie said.

With Dollie out of the picture Naas Olivier would have been an ideal replacement on the bench, but with him playing his rugby overseas these days the Stormers are holding thumbs that Grant will see the match out.

Should the worse happen, Erasmus could count on Gio Aplon, Conrad Jantjes or even Joe Pietersen to fill in at flyhalf. Dollie, however, remains positive.

“The injury could have been worse. Luckily I will only be sidelined for two weeks,” he said.

The former All Black pivot Tony Brown will only join the team on their first away match against the Reds.
