Griquas and Valke lead Currie Cup qualifying race

Undefeated Currie Cup table leaders Griquas return to Currie Cup qualifying action on Saturday when they host the Valke in Kimberley.

The frontrunners with 18 points will be looking extend their lead over the Leopards, a single point adrift.

The Leopards moved to 17 points after their massive 70-25 victory over the Griffons last weekend.

SWD Eagles were third on 15 points, followed by the Boland Cavaliers (12), Valke (10), Griffons (8) and Border Bulldogs (2).

The Leopards could leapfrog the Griquas when take on Boland on Saturday, with the final round of matches taking place next weekend.

Former Springbok flyhalf Andre Pretorius will captain the Leopards in the number 10 jersey.

Boland and SWD Eagles have both played five matches and, although out of contention, the Cavaliers will be looking to finish the qualifying campaign on a high note in front of their home supporters.

Border Bulldogs kick off the weekend entertainment, when they host the Valke in East London on Friday.

Last placed Border came close to victory in their previous two matches and will be desperate to register their first win of the competition.

Saturday:

Boland Cavaliers v Leopards (Boland Stadium, Wellington, 2.30pm);

Griquas v Valke (GWK Park, Kimberley, 3pm)
