The HSBC Waratahs have been forced to make two late changes to their side to play the Highlanders at Aussie Stadium on Saturday, with Ben Hand succumbing to a back injury and Kurtley Beale ruled out with tonsillitis.

Hand injured his back in training on Tuesday while Beale missed Thursday’s session after first presenting with symptoms on Wednesday.

Tim Davidson will step in for Hand while utility back Chris Siale is in line to make his Super 14 debut after being named Beale’s replacement.

‘It’s disappointing but we trained without Ben and Kurtley yesterday and are used to changes at this point,’ HSBC Waratahs head coach Ewen McKenzie said.

‘Tim Davidson has done well for us every time he’s been called upon and Chris Siale has been knocking at the door for a couple of years now and thoroughly deserves his chance.’

Siale will line up alongside fellow debutant Nathan Sievert on the bench.

They will become the 10th and 11th players to make their Super 14 debuts for the Waratahs this season if called upon to take the field.
