All Black prop Carl Hayman has committed himself to Otago for another three years.

Otago union chief executive Russell Gray said today that Hayman had re-signed until 2009. ‘This is great news for Otago,’ he said. ‘It’s wonderful that the best tighthead in the world has decided to stay loyal to his roots.’

Hayman first played for Otago in 1998 as an 18-year-old and has since played 67 games for the province and 75 for the Highlanders.

‘I’m an Otago man and I’m very happy to stay there,’ he said. ‘I enjoy the whole rugby experience of being in Dunedin and it’s great being involved with a team that’s developing well.’

Hayman, 26, first played for the All Blacks in 2001 and is now the regular first-choice. He has played 31 times for New Zealand, including 30 test matches.
