Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Dunedin based Highlanders
and the Durban based Sharks the Durban side have won three and the Dunedin side
two.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off.

Lima Sopoaga kicks off and we are underway. 

1.00: Willem Alberts breaks and passes the ball to Cobus Reinach who kicks the ball upfield and into touch. 

2.00: The Highlanders win the line out and force the Sharks to take it back into touch. The Highlanders win the line out again and attack the Sharks in the Sharks half. 

3.00: The Highlanders chip the ball ahead and  Odwa Ndungane gets back and after a recycle Fred Zeilinga chips the ball into touch. 

4.00: The Highlanders win the line out and Patrick Osborne slips through and gets the Highlanders over the gain line. The Highlanders spread the ball wide Ndungane slips off a tackle on Ben Smith and the Highlanders go wide to Gareth Evans who scores. TRY! 

5.00: Lima Sopoaga adds the conversion. 

8.00: The Sharks win the first scrum but as they run the ball they lose it in the tackle and the Highlanders press the Sharks back into their half. 

12.00; The Highlanders keep kicking the ball deep into Sharks territory forcing them to chase. This time the ball goes into touch. The Sharks win a penalty to interfering at the line out. The Sharks kick for touch. 

13.00: The Sharks win the line out and a maul forms around Coetzee before they kick. The Highlanders get the ball and counterattack. 

14.00: After a long period of play in which the ball changes sides several times Ben Smith gets the ball and slices through the Sharks, he passes to Patrick Osborne who gets into the Sharks 22 but the Sharks turn the ball over and kick for touch. 

16.00: The Highlanders win the line out and they chip the ball up behind Ndungane again and he has to chase and the ball goes into touch. 

17.00: The Sharks win the line out but Stephan Lewies drops the ball and knocks on. The Highlanders have a scrum about 10m in front of the posts.  

18.00: The Highlanders win the ball from the scrum and they go wide but lose the ball and the Sharks turn it over. The Sharks are tackled but recycle and kick for touch. 

20.00: Penalty to the Highlanders from the ruck. Sopoaga takes the penalty kick and nails it.

21.00: The Sharks kick off but Zeilinga’s kick is too big and rolls out behind the dead ball line. Scrum on the half way line. 

23.00: Penalty to the Sharks. Zeilinga slots the kick and the Sharks are on the board.  

27.00: Penalty to the Sharks for collapsing the maul. Zeilinga kicks for touch. 

29.00: The Sharks enjoy some good continuity as they work the ball into the Highlanders 22. They win a penalty for not releasing. They choose to kick for the corner and the line out. There is a brief a break in play as Lwazi Mvovo is injured. 

30.00: The Sharks win the line out but the Highlanders shove them backwards initially. 

31.00: The Sharks recycle and go for the line. They get the advantage but they don’t need it as Tendai Mtawarira goes over and scores. TRY! 

32.00: Zeilinga slots the conversion and the scores are level. 

34.00: The Highlanders hit straight back. Aaron Smith makes a break and passes to Ben Smith. he is tackled but the ball is kept alive and Lima Sopoaga chips the ball with perfection to Waisake Naholo on the wing and he dives over to score. TRY! 

35.00: Sopoaga slots the conversion from near the touchline. 

36.00: Scrum to the Highlanders on the half way line as the Sharks were in front of the kicker at the restart. 

38.00: The Highlanders win the scrum and Patrick Osborne has a sniping run. He slams the ball on the ground and scores. The TMO checks. It’s a TRY! Try was created by Sopoaga’s timing of the pass.

39.00: Sopoaga takes the conversion kick from out wide and this one he curls in as well. 

40.00: The siren sounds but the Highlanders play on. Ben Smith gets the ball and races towards the line. He has Naholo with him but the pass goes to a Sharks player and the ball goes dead. 

It’s half time.

The Sharks kick off and we are underway with the second half. 

41.00: The Sharks use the maul early on and it wins them a penalty for side entry. Conrad Hoffman is on for Cobus Reinach. The Sharks kick for touch. 

42.00: The Sharks win the line out and use the maul. They get to the line and Bismarck du Plessis claims the try so we go to the TMO. No clear grounding so no try. 

43.00; The Sharks win the scrum and use the pick and go. They get in front of the posts and then go wide. 

44.00: The Highlanders hold them out but the Sharks keep attacking. 15 phases. ALberts goes for the line but again they are held up. 

46.00: After a couple of resets the Highlanders win a penalty for the Sharks front row collapsing in front of the posts. The Highlanders kick for touch. 

49.00: The Sharks win the ball and pass the ball down the line but JP Pietersen takes his eye off the ball and knocks on. 

52.00: Ben Smith comes off after taking a knock for a concussion test. Marty Banks comes on for the time being. Aaron Smith tries a chip kick for Osborne but the ball just goes into touch. 

53.00: The Sharks win the line out but kick for touch and don’t make much ground at all. 

54.00: The Highlanders throw deep at the line out and it goes to Osborne at pace, he is caught but the Highlanders keep the ball alive. They go for the line but Aaron Smith grabs at the ball as he dives over and knocks on. 

56.00: The Highlanders chase a lose ball behind the Sharks tryline from a messy Sharks line out and Mark Reddish gets to the ball before two Sharks and scores. Bonus point TRY! 

57.00: Sopoaga slots the conversion. 

58.00: The Highlanders could be in again. Richard Buckman makes a break and is stopped short. He passes the ball and Aaron Smith is there and gets the ball and scores. TRY! The TMO checks. All good. 

59.00: Lima Sopoaga misses the conversion – hits the post. Ben Smith is staying off. 

64.00: The Sharks look dangerous as they attack in the Highlanders 22. They get close to scoring but the Highlanders turn it over and counter attack. The Highlanders get the ball into the Sharks half.

65.00: After five phases the Highlanders get into the Sharks 22. They keep the ball moving through brilliant hands – every time they pass someone is there and the final pass goes to Brendon Edmonds who scores. TRY! 

66.00: Sopoaga slots the conversion. 

70.00: The Sharks win a line out and set up the maul. They drive for the line and go and Bismarck du Plessis scores. TRY! 

71.00: Lionel Cronje takes the conversion but misses. 

73.00: The Sharks handling skills – in perfect conditions as the stadium is indoors – has been awful. They knock on again. The Highlanders win a scrum and try to attack but get caught. The Sharks turn the ball over and begin their attack. 

74.00: Penalty to the Highlanders for not releasing the ball. 

75.00: The Highlanders kick for touch. They win the line out and win another penalty. They kick for touch again and set up a line out in the Sharks 22. 

77.00: The Highlanders win the line out and use the maul. They make some ground but it then breaks up. The Highlanders continue to pick at the line and this time Elliot Dixon scores. TRY! 

78.00: Marty Banks just misses the conversion – just misses the post.

80.00: The Sharks have the ball as the siren sounds. They try to attack in the Highlanders half. The Sharks lose the ball and that is it. 

The Highlanders have won.
