Don’t expect too much fancy stuff from either team, even if the games does feature skillful players like Nick Evans and Bryan Habana.


This is a game between two teams known for their liking to a physical confrontation. This one could be brutal.

 

Match Detail.

 

The Highlanders got the first points of the match with a penalty kick and then the Bulls Derick Hougaard followed that up after 10 minutes with another penalty kick.

 

Derick Hougaard’s second penalty kick went away to the left. Both sides continued to battle away at each other but in the 24th minute the Highlanders took the lead with another penalty.

 

Derick Hougaard levelled the scores just before the 30 minute mark when his penalty kick went in off the posts.

 

With 5 minutes left of the half The Bulls took the lead for the first time when Derick Hougaard  kicked another penalty goal from a fair way out.

 

The Highlanders then put in a high tackle and gave away another penalty in a kickable place which allowed the Bulls Derick Hougaard to kick another penalty giving the Bulls a six point lead going into half time.

 

The half time score was Highlanders 6 Bulls 12

 

The first ten minutes of the second half saw both teams again battling it out with no change in the score.

 

The Highlanders Ezra Taylor (52nd minute) was sent to the bin for 10 minutes for a high tackle (he had a warning earlier) and the penalty saw the Bulls pull another three points away from the Highlanders thanks to Derick Hougaard boot and penalty.

 

After 59 minutes the Bulls used the numbers advantage and scored the first try of the match when Jaco van der Westhuyzen ran over the line scored.

 

Derick Hougaard kicked the first conversion of the match from almost the corner flag.

 

When the Highlanders got their numbers back up to 15, they turned up the pace of the game and put the Bulls line under pressure for a good 8 minutes or so.

 

Eventually the Bulls defence gave in and the Highlanders scored a try which Nick Evans converted. The Highlanders new lease on life in this match continued but they are running out of time fast.

 

In the last minutes of the match Matfield was sent to the bin for 10 minutes even though he would not be able to spend the time in the bin. The Penalty for Matfields Yellow card saw Nick Evans kick for posts in order to get the bonus point but the ball went wide as the siren went for full time.
