Highlanders midfield back Jason Kawau will miss the Highlanders rugby match against the Reds on Friday after he was allegedly hit with a rubbish bin in Dunedin last Saturday morning.
Kawau was reportedly concussed and needed stitches in his top lip after the incident which took place at 4.20am in Dunedin.
A 29-year-old Dunedin forklift driver was arrested 25 minutes later and was charged with assault with a weapon (The Bin ?).
The forklift driver appeared in court and was remanded on bail to reappear on March 16, The Otago Daily Times reports.
Highlanders manager Greg O’Brien says that they have spoken to Kawau and he has been cleared him any blame.
“We have no issues with Jason,” he told NZPA.
The Highlanders play the Reds next then they have a bye and he may be able to recover in time to face the Bulls.
