SANZAAR, Rugby Australia and New Zealand Rugby have confirmed that the Highlanders versus Melbourne Rebels match, scheduled for Sunday 30 May at Queenstown Events Centre, Queenstown in New Zealand, has been moved to Australia due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Melbourne.
Due to this outbreak, the New Zealand Government has paused flights between the Australian State of Victoria and New Zealand. The pause was instigated on Tuesday (May 25) prior to the Melbourne Rebels leaving Victoria for Sydney – and a possible flight to New Zealand – ruling them ineligible to travel to New Zealand.
The match will now be played in Sydney at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday 30 May. The match will kick-off at 1500 local time.
The Melbourne Rebels are already in Sydney. Highlanders will fly to Sydney via Auckland on Saturday 29 May.
SANZAAR, Rugby Australia and New Zealand Rugby will continue to work with their respective governments and health authorities ahead of fixtures for the remainder of the competition.
