Super Rugby Round 9 kicks off in Dunedin where the current champions host South Africa’s Sharks in the all weather Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Lima Sopoaga kicks off and the match is underway.

The Highlanders win a penalty for obstruction almost straight from the kick off. Sopoaga will take a shot at the posts.

2.00: Sopoaga takes the shot and nails it. The Highlanders lead.

3.00: Garth April puts the restart straight into touch so we have a scrum.

4.00: There is a bit of a kicking contest and the Highlanders struggle a bit with their handling. Matt Faddes knocks on which gives the Sharks a scrum inside the Highlanders half.

5.00: Cobus Reinach goes down after being hit in the tackle by Lima Sopoaga. There was some shoulder in the tackle so the TMO is called in. After the review the Sharks are awarded a penalty. Reinach slowly gets up. He comes off – its a knee injury and is replaced by Michael Claasens. The shoulder charge didnt do the damage it was a twist in the tackle.

6.00: Garth April takes the penalty kick. He nails it. Sharks are level.

9.00: The Sharks go through 7 phases on attack and they press the Highlanders back towards their tryline. Ndungane chips the ball to the corner and Sopoaga runs it into touch.

10.00: The Sharks win the line out and use the maul. The Highlanders collapse it but the Sharks go wide. Mvovo gets the ball as he is tackled but passes forward. We go back for the penalty. The Sharks will kick for posts.

11.00: April slots the penalty and the Sharks lead.

12.00: Willie le Roux goes high for a tackle and Jason Emery connects with him in the air. Le Roux spins in the air and lands on his head. Ouch. Emery will surely be carded here. Le Roux gets back up and carries on. Emery is RED carded. It wasn’t intentional but it was dangerous. Joe Pietersen comes on for Le Roux. Could be HIA.

13.00: The Sharks kick for touch with the line out.

14.00: The Sharks win a free kick and they kick for touch. The Sharks win the line out but the Highlanders knock on.

16.00: Scrum penalty to the Highlanders. Sopoaga will kick for posts.

17.00: Sopoaga lines up the kick but he misses. Short.

20.00: The Highlanders go through 6 phases on attack and they press the Sharks back into their 22. The Sharks turn the ball over and run the ball and then kick it. Ben Smith gets back but gets caught. The Highlanders recycle after a couple of phases and kick for touch. Le Roux is back on.

23.00: The Sharks win a line out and use the maul from inside their half. They drive over the half way line but the Highlanders get the ball and knock on. Aaron Smith in a tackle at the breakdown.

27.00: The Highlanders try a quick line out but it backfires. The Sharks end up with a scrum. The Sharks win the scrum and run the ball but they knock on. The Sharks then get caught offside/playing the halfback – penalty to the Highlanders.

29.00: Sopoaga kicks for touch and the line out. Philip van der Walt comes off injured and on comes Jean Deysel.

31.00: The Highlanders get an intercept on slow ball. They keep it in the forwards and go through the phases. They are called back for a high tackle by Keegan Daniel. Sopoaga will kick for posts.

33.00: Sopaga takes the kick but misses. Short again.

34.00: The Sharks play Aaron Smith and concede a penalty. Sopoaga kicks to the corner.

35.00: The Highlanders win the line out, its messy and the Sharks go offside. The Highlanders win a penalty and tap it. They attack but there is a problem as there is a double whistle. Stephan Lewies is yellow carded. The Sharks argue with the referee. Lewies is off though. Highlanders take the scrum.

37.00: The Highlanders win the scrum and after two phases they drive over the line but get held up. A Highlanders player was tackled without the ball though so the Highlanders have another penalty.

39.00; The Highlanders win the scrum but its messy again.

40.00: The Highlanders drive over the line but are held up/short. It’s half time.

The half time score was Highlanders 3 Sharks 6

The Sharks kick off and the second half is underway.

42.00: The Sharks are keeping the ball in hand more and forcing the Highlanders to run and possibly tire. The Sharks get the ball to the tryline but they are held out and they lose the ball.

43.00: Penalty to the Sharks for offside. They will kick for posts.

44.00: April takes the kick and nails it.

44.00: The Highlanders attack from the restart and Sopoaga almost gets through and away but he loses the ball forward.

46.00: Penalty to the Highlanders. They will take the shot.

47.00: Sopoaga takes the kick and nails it. Highlanders trail by three.

48.00: Stephan Lewies is back on so the Sharks are back to 15.  The Sharks win a penalty on their 22 and they run it. They get to the Highlanders half but lose the ball.

50.00: The Highlanders run the ball into the Sharks half and win a penalty for offside at the breakdown after runs from Malakai Fekitoa and Shane Christie. They take the line out.

51.00: The Highlanders win the line out and attack in the Sharks 22.

52.00: The Highlanders win a penalty for playing the man on the ground. JP Pietersen tackled Aaron Smith while he was on the ground and is yellow carded. Tendai Mtawarira  accuses the referee of trying to even up the players and gives the ref a mouthful accusing him of not being fair. Sopoaga takes the shot and nails it. The scores are level.

54.00: The Sharks string together 10 phases on attack. Its slow though and they make little ground. They do win a penalty though. They will kick for posts.

56.00: April slots the penalty and the Sharks lead again.

57.00: Ben Smith sends the ball well downfield into Sharks territory and into touch. The Highlanders win the line out. They use the maul. They go wide and Sopoaga almost gets through but they recycle and Matt Faddes dives and stretches and puts the ball on the line. TRY!

59.00: Sopoaga takes the conversion kick from the touchline. He misses.

62.00: The Sharks win a scrappy line out in their 22. They have to scramble to clear the ball. When the ball goes out everyone is called back for a penalty. The Sharks clear the ball to just beyond half way. Sithole comes on for Ndungane.

64.00: Penalty for leaving the feet to the Highlanders. Mtawarira has another moan at the ref. He is going to get himself into trouble. The Sharks replace Franco Marais with Chiliboy Rallepelle. The Highlanders take the line out.

66.00: The Highlanders win the line out but the Sharks then turn it over and April kicks for touch.

68.00: The Sharks move the ball from side to side and the Highlanders go for an intercept but Sopoaga loses the ball. Knock on. Willie le Roux comes off for the Sharks. Joe Pietersen is on.

70.00: The Sharks attack and JP Pietersen offloads to Joe Pietersen , the Highlanders stop them short of the line and turn the ball over. The Highlanders try to run the ball and then kick it. Ben Smith slices the ball and nearly hits the corner flag.

71.00: The Sharks win the line out and drive for the line. There may be a knock on or a try. We go to the TMO. No try but Sharks scrum.

72.00: The Sharks win the scrum and attack. They get to the line but the Highlanders hold them out. The Sharks will kick for posts.

73.00: The Sharks go through 8 phases on attack and win a penalty.

75.00: April slots the penalty and the Sharks lead.

77.00: The Highlanders launch into attack and look dangerous. They get into the Sharks 22 but then knock on. Pressure.

78.00: The Sharks win the scrum and clear the ball, however it gets charged and the Highlanders get the ball. Sopoaga goes for the drop but misses.

The Highlanders knock the ball on after the siren. Thats it the Sharks have won.
