Waratahs captain Michael Hooper has paid credit to the Brumbies for the way they built pressure in the second half and took the game away from his side.

The Waratahs made a terrible start to the match and lost Will Skelton and Dean Mumm to yellow cards in the first 30 minutes.

The Sydney kept themselves in the game however and by half time the scores were level on 8 all.

The Brumbies and Waratahs then took turns in scoring as winger Joe Tomane and half-back Nick Phipps crossed for tries.

The Brumbies went ahead with a penalty try in the 69th minute before replacement Nigel Ah Wong sealed the result with the home side’s fourth try.

“We got two yellow cards and we regrouped really well and I was happy with the way we fought our way back into the game at 8-all at half-time,” said Waratahs skipper Michael Hooper after the match.

“I thought until the 15-20 minutes to go we were right in it, I thought we were on a roll but credit to the Brumbies, they built pressure and their set piece got us in the end.”

The Brumbies face the Western Force in Perth next week.
