The Hurricanes struggled to pull away from the Western Force but kept the pressure on and eventually won the match 41-6.

The Wellington side battled to cross the whitewash in the opening half but the flodgates opened after 60 minutes and the Force ultimately conceded six tries.

“We had to grind away. In the second half we kept our intensity up,” said captain Dane Coles after the match.

“We knew if we did that we could open the game up like we did.”

The Hurricanes host the Southern Kings from South Africa next weekend.
