The Hurricanes have made one change to the starting side that narrowly lost to the Chiefs for this weekend’s Super Rugby match against the the Lions in Johannesburg.

Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd has promoted lock Vaea Fifita into the starting team and changes places with Blade Thomson on the replacements.

The bench has two changes from last week and half back Jamison Gibson-Park comes into the squad for Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi, who has remained in New Zealand, while James Marshall edges out Otere Black as cover for first five and fullback.

Fifita, who will make his fourth start of 2016, resumes his locking partnership with Michael Fatialofa after the pair started together for the first time against the Rebels in Melbourne a fortnight ago.

Hurricanes coach said he was lucky to have two players in Fifita and Thomson both equally as capable of starting or providing impact off the bench with their athleticism.

Gibson-Park’s experience made him a valuable asset behind vice-captain TJ Perenara, while Marshall, who was named in the reserves against the Chiefs before being withdrawn on match day, was now fully fit after missing three matches due to concussion.
