The Hurricanes Super Rugby winning head coach Chris Boyd has been linked with Welsh Rugby club Cardiff Blues as a replacement for Danny Wilson at the Arms Park.

Former Ireland international Geordan Murphy had been seen as a replacement for Wilson as he has impressed the bosses during his time with Leicester Tigers as an assistant coach.

However it is understood that Murphy was shortlisted and interviewed but since then there has been no announcement to say that Murphy would be appointed.

It is now believed that the search for the perfect candidate has been widened and the Welsh Rugby Union made it clear in October that they would help the Blues to find “a really great coach”.

Sources in New Zealand and Wales are linking Hurricanes boss Boyd to the position more and more.

Boyd has also been tipped as a possible replacement for Wales head coach after Warren Gatland steps down in 2019 but other Kiwi coaches such as Dave Rennie and Wayne Pivac have both been linked to that role as well.

Hurricanes boss Boyd led the Hurricanes to the Super Rugby final in his first season with the Wellington team and in his second he led them to their first Super Rugby title despite the departures of the Canes long standing centre partnership of Conrad Smith and Ma’a Nonu.

Former Sunwolves Super Rugby coach and Ospreys forward Filo Tiatia has also been linked with Cardiff Blues.
