The Cheetahs suffered a double injury setback, following their 22-all draw against the Chiefs in Bloemfontein last Friday.

They await the arrival of the unbeaten Sharks, for a Round Six Super 14 encounter, with the knowledge that hooker Adriaan Strauss and lock Darron Nell will both be sidelined.

Strauss dislocated his shoulder and will be sidelined for between four to six weeks. He also won’t travel with the Cheetahs when they depart for their Australasian tour in a fortnight.

Nell damaged knee ligaments and while surgery is not recommended, he could be sidelined for four weeks as well – also ruling him out of the trip abroad.

But more importantly, both will miss the next two home games – against the Sharks this coming Saturday and the Brumbies a week later.

The good news is that veteran Springbok prop Os du Randt did not suffer any serious damage, after leaving the field with a knee injury during the draw against the Chiefs.

There was also concern over tighthead prop Jannie du Plessis, who left the field with a shoulder injury.

But both Du Randt and Du Plessis are expected to be cleared to face the Sharks.

The big problem for the Cheetahs is at lock – where they are now without two of their top and most experience locks – Barend Pieterse (who has been sidelined since the beginning of the season) and Nell.
