Jaguares backrower Leonardo Senatore has been banned for 10 weeks after he was found guilty of biting Sharks forward Keegan Daniel.

A SANZAAR Judicial Hearing has found Senatore guilty of contravening Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship – Biting, after he was cited during a Super Rugby match at the weekend.

Senatore contravened Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship – Biting, during the match between the Jaguares and Sharks at Velez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires on 14 May 2016.

The SANZAAR Judicial Hearing held via video conference on Monday 16 May and was heard by Judicial Committee members; Adam Casselden (Chairman), John Langford and De Wet Barry.

In their finding, the Judicial committee ruled the following:”Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles and additional evidence, including from the player and submissions from his legal representative, Stephan Weyers, the Judicial Committee upheld the citing under Law 10.4(m) acts contrary to good sportsmanship – biting.

With respect to sanction the Judicial Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a low-end entry point of 12 weeks. The Judicial Committee then added 2 weeks for aggravation as this was the player’s second offence for biting. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the player’s good character, his playing record and his disciplinary record the Judicial Committee reduced the suspension to a period of ten weeks.”

I hope so Sanzar’s Judges judge all players with the same rule.

Mr. Keegan Daniel did not only a dangerous tackle, which forced Mr. Santore to fall and hit with his head straight to the ground (minute 69:16) but also he caught Mr. Senatore’s head (Mr. Daniel put his arm in Mr. Senatore’s mouth) and he retained him illegal in the floor (with both arms covering Mr. Senatore’s face minute 69:25), in a typical disloyal play.

Not punishing Mr. Daniel is an unfair verdict, which rewards a trouble maker player, and it encourages other players to be provocative.
