Jaguares beat Bulls in Buenos Aires

on

Argentina’s Jaguares return from the bye last weekend with a Super Rugby match against the Bulls in Buenos Aires.

The Jaguares won their last four matches on tour in Australia and New Zealand and have had a week to recover from the travel.

They are back at home where they have not fared well this year.

  • This will be the third meeting between the Jaguares and Bulls, with each of the two previous encounters being won by the home team on the day (one win apiece).
  • The Jaguares are currently enjoying a four-game win streak, their best ever in Super Rugby; however, they’ve won just two of their last eight games at home.
  • The Bulls have lost their last nine games outside South Africa, picking up just two losing bonus points in that time.
  • The Jaguares have a scrum success rate of just 85% this campaign, the lowest of any team in the competition.
  • Jesse Kriel made a joint round-high five clean breaks in Round 13, taking his season tally to 18, more than any other South African player.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick-off.

1.00: PEEEEP! We are underway in Buenos Aires.

2.00: Agustin Creevy gathers a loose ball and finishes, under pressure, to give his team an early lead, however, it looks like the hooker knocked on before picking up the ball. No try!

6.00: The Jaguares scrum dominated, but the Bulls clear through Manie Libbok.

16.00: The Bulls need to steady their scrum; their lineout will always be better than the home team.

18.00: PENALTY! Sanchez adds another three. 13-7

19.00: John Mitchell’s Bulls are trying to play at every opportunity. It’s great to watch. They spread the ball wide and have a great offloading game.

23.00: Lots of scrums because of some poor handling by both teams.

25.00: Thembelani Bholi goes close but he loses the ball in contact with the try-line at his mercy. He should have recycled the ball instead of going for glory.

29.00: The Bulls are struggling but are no means being outplayed. They are just making too many mistakes.

31.00: Handre Pollard clears after the Bulls win the penalty.

33.00: The Bulls concede another soft penalty which the home team will take advantage of by calling for the kicking tee.

74.00: TRY! Sebastian Cancelliere takes De La Fuente’s pass and runs in his side’s sixth try of the night. The forwards and backs combined with some wonderful offloading, conjuring images of the great French sides, before putting the winger away. 47-17

75.00: MISS! The conversion is wide. 47-17

77.00: YELLOW CARD! Juan Cruz Mallia is sent of the bin, but it looks like it should have been Guido Petti for a grass-cutter hit.
