Jaguares beat Sharks in Buenos Aires

The Jaguares host the Sharks in the third Super Rugby match on Friday and they will be looking for their sixth straight win.

The Jaguares and Sharks have played each other four times in Super rugby and the Sharks have won all four matches.

Two matches were played in Buenos Aires and two in Durban.

  • The Sharks have won all of their previous four games against the Jaguares, each by a margin of no greater than eight points.
  • The Jaguares have won their last five games on the bounce, of which three came after trailing at the half-time interval.
  • The Sharks have lost six of their last seven games away from home; however, they have managed to pick up a losing bonus point in five of those six defeats.
  • The Jaguares have kicked 10 penalty goals within the opening quarter of games this season, more than any other team in the competition.
  • Lwazi Mvovo made a round-high 115 metres in Round 14, his most in a single game since Round 13, 2017 (152m).

0.01: The Jaguares kick off and the match is underway.

1.00: The Sharks get an early free kick so they kick for touch and get the line out.

3.00: The Sharks win their line out and attack in the forwards. They make a little ground but then get pushed back. The Jaguares win a penalty for a dangerous tackle.

4.00: The Jaguares kick for touch and the line out. The ball goes out in the Sharks 22. The Jaguares set up a maul from the line out but the ball goes dead. Sharks scrum in their 22.

5.00: The Jaguares scrum illegally so the Sharks have a free kick and kick for touch.

6.00:  Early possession is at 70% to the Jaguares.

8.00: Creevy wins the ball at the ruck and a penalty. The Jaguares kick for touch and the line out. They win the line out and use the maul. They make ground but then there is a knock on.

12.00: Nicolas Sanchez takes the kick at goal and nails it. Jaguares lead.

15.00: Penalty for the Sharks. They kick for touch and take the line out. The Sharks throw the ball in but the Jaguares knock it on.

16.00: The Sharks get an advantage and play on. Penalty to the Sharks as Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro is caught offside. The Sharks will have a shot. Robert du Preez takes the kick from straight in front. He misses.

19.00: The Jaguares win a line out and run it down the line. There is a mix up in the passing and the ball is dropped and knocked on. The Sharks have a scrum in the middle of the field.

22.00.: The Sharks have almost evened up the territory stats. The Sharks attack down the wing as Lwazi Mvovo grubbers and chases down the touchline but the ball goes into touch.

25.00: Penalty to the Sharks. Curwin Bosch will have a shot at the posts as its well inside the Sharks half. He misses. The Jaguares kick the ball back and into touch near where Bosch kicked from.

28.00: Bofelli makes a break from inside the Jaguares half. He offloads and the Jaguares move the ball out wide to Ramiro Moyano who has plenty of space and goes in to score. TRY!

29.00: Sanchez adds the conversion.

32.00: The Jaguares open up the Sharks defence with clever kick from Bofelli. The Sharks concede a penalty as Sbu Nkosi fumbles the ball under pressure. The Jaguares take it quickly and Moyano goes in for his second TRY.

33.00: Sanchez adds the conversion.

39.00: The Sharks work the ball into the Jaguares 22. They set up a 5m line out and Dan du Preez wins the ball and offloads to Ruan Botha who scores. TRY! 

40.30: Robert du Preez takes the conversion kick and nails it.

The Sharks kick off and the second half is underway.

42.00: The Jaguares win the first line out of the second half. They run the ball at pace and get straight into the Sharks 22 but the Sharks scramble and win a penalty. The Sharks clear the ball into touch.

43.00: The Sharks make a mess of the line out so the Jaguares get the throw in.

48.00: The Sharks win a penalty in front of the posts.

50.00: Du Preez takes the kick and nails it.

54.00: The Sharks win another penalty as Sanchez goes off his feet. Du Preez lines up the posts and takes another shot. He nails it.

55.00: The Jaguares almost hit straight back as Bofelli breaks through and gets almost to the 5m line. He is stopped short and his pass is knocked on ending a promising break.

The Jaguares build up some momentum and Guido Petti dives for the line and gets the ball on the line. The TMO will have a look at the try. No try but the Jaguares had an advantage so they take a line out.

61.00: The Jaguares win the line out and work the ball across the field and then come back but knock on.

65.00: The Sharks chip the ball ahead and Mvovo and Makazole Mapimpi chase the ball. Movo appears to knock the ball on and then Makazole Mapimpi gets to it to score. The TMO checks the try and there is a knock on. The Jaguares have a 5m scrum.

67.00: The Jaguares win the scrum and clear the ball.

69.00: The Sharks win a free kick and boot for touch. They find it just inside the Jaguares half and then win the line out.

70.00: The Jaguares (Moyano) slips through the Sharks defence and races for the line – he offloads to Bautista Delguy who finishes off the TRY! 

71.00: Sanchez adds the conversion so the Sharks need to score twice if they are to win.

73.00: Ruan Botha clears out a Jaguares player with his shoulder onto the player’s head and is shown a RED card.

78.00: The Jaguares scrum powers through the Sharks scrum in their 22. The Sharks however turn the ball over and kick it back to the Jaguares.

79.00: Penalty against Lukhanyo Am. The Jaguares take the line out and set up a 5m line out. They win the line out and suck the Sharks in with a maul. The Jaguares go wide and offload to Moyano who slips over in the corner for his hat trick and bonus point try. 

Bofelli takes the conversion from out wide. He misses.
