The final Super Rugby match in round 17 this weekend is in Buenos Aires where the Jaguares host South Africa’s Stormers from Cape Town.

The Jaguares have played the Stormers three times in Super Rugby, losing all of them.

  • The Stormers have won each of their previous three games against the Jaguares, though none by a margin of more than eight points.
  • The Jaguares have won their last six Super Rugby games on the bounce, a streak twice as long as their previous best in the competition.
  • The Stormers have won just two of their last 13 games away from home, and are winless on the road so far in 2018 (L7).
  • The Jaguares have scored 10 tries after winning possession via a turnover this season, only the Chiefs (11) have scored more tries via this method.
  • The Stormers’ Siya Kolisi has made 13 clean breaks this campaign, the equal most of any forward in the competition alongside Kwagga Smith and Akira Ioane.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick-off.

1.00: PEEEEP! We are underway in sunny Argentina.

3.00: The Jaguares win an early penalty and will take a shot.

4.00: PENALTY! Nicolas Sanchez gets his team underway with three. 3-0

7.00: It’s all Jaguares at the moment, they have had most of the territory and possession in the early exchanges.

9.00: The Stormers have conceded four penalties to zero. They will need to watch their ill-discipline.

12.00: TRY! Bautista Delguy is over for his side’s first try of the game. Jaguares have started well in Buenos Aires. 8-0

13.00: CONVERSION! Sanchez adds the extras. 10-0

15.00: TRY! The bounces kindly for lock Guido Petti and the South Americans take a firm grip on the clash. 15-0

16.00: MISS! Sanchez can’t convert. 15-0

19.00: The Stormers need to get some composure or the Argentines will run riot.

21.00: Tackling by the South Africans needs to improve, quickly. They have only made 22 of 35 so far compared to the Jaguares’ 25 from 29.

24.00: The set pieces have been even but for two lost Stormers lineouts. Jaguares in control.

25.00: TRY! Sikhumbuzo Notshe puts the Stormers on the board with a burst of pace and power. Boy, the Cape town men needed that. 15-5

26.00: CONVERSION! Jean-Luc du Plessis adds the extras. 15-7

28.00: The Cape Town men have slowly got back into the contest and have had the better of the play in the last 10 minutes. The Jaguares’ penalties have nearly caught up with the South Africans.

31.00: Not much kicking from Robbie Fleck’s team; it’s the home side who are going to boot more, but then again, they kick more than most sides in Super Rugby.

34.00: The Jaguares have been impressive. The defending has been solid and they have been superb in the set-pieces.

37.00: We are nearing the end of the first 40 minutes. The Stormers have fought back and been better in the second quarter.

41.00: The hooter sounds, and that is that for the opening stanza.

The halftime score was Jaguares 15 Stormers 7

41.00: PEEEEP! We are back underway in South America.

41.00: TRY! What a start! Petti kicks ahead and gathers, runs 60 metres into the Stormers 22. He swerves defenders before being tackled. The ball is recycled quickly for Martias Orlando to go in untouched. 20-7

43.00: CONVERSION! Sanchez adds another two. 22-7

47.00: The Stormers get a penalty and kick to the opposition’s 22.

50.00: Another attack is killed by some sloppy passing by Damian de Allende.

53.00: Du Plessis kicks another penalty to the Jaguares’ 22. They attack wide, but another mistake halts the attack.

57.00: The penalties are mounting against the Jaguares – nothing unusual in this, but they might start seeing cards.

60.00: TRY! The Stormers suck in the defenders before shifting the ball wide to Dillyn Leyds, who beats his man and is over for the try. 22-12

61.00: CONVERSION! Superb curling kick by Du Plessis who cuts the lead to eight. 22-14

64.00: The Jaguares win a penalty and kick deep into enemy territory.

66.00: The Argentines are slowing the game down, expertly; taking their time getting up slowly after rucks; taking their time to get to set pieces. It’s glorious.

69.00: Somehow, the Cape Town men are still in this. Time is against them and they need another score, soon.

73.00: PENALTY! Sanchez extends his side’s lead to 11. 25-14

74.00: Jaguares just eating up the clock. It’s still a two-score lead, and the visitors need a try soon.

77.00: Lineout to the Cape side inside the opposition’s 22. Here we go.

80.00: The hooter sounds before the game’s last scrum.

Game over.
