Leon MacDonald is expected to slot straight back into the starting 15 for the Crusaders for this Friday’s Rebel Sport Super 14 match against the Hurricanes in Wellington.

The veteran fullback was a late omission from the side that thrashed the Waratahs last week, but played a full part at training yesterday reports Newstalk.

Meanwhile rookie prop Owen Franks has joined the Crusaders squad as a replacement for the injured Campbell Johnstone, who is out of the rest of the Super 14.

Franks says he did a bit of work with the Crusaders before Christmas but he is pretty stoked to get the call-up to the senior side.

Johnstone’s chance of an All Black return in 2008 have been handed a major blow as he is out of rugby for 12 weeks because of an infected tendon in his little finger.

Crusaders assistant Mark Hammett says Franks is a deserving replacement, although Johnstone still has plenty of rugby left in him.
