JP Nel four week ban appeal fails

Bulls center JP Nel was unsuccessful in his appeal against a four-week ban on Wednesday and will miss the Super 14 semifinals this week.


Nel was suspended on Monday until June 13 after a SANZAR judiciary found him guilty of a dangerous tackle on Sharks fullback Stefan Terblanche.


Nel received a yellow card for the offense in Saturday’s Super Rugby match, won by the Bulls 27-26, and was cited afterward.


A SANZAR appeals committee late Wednesday upheld the original decision.


Nel will also miss next week’s final if the Bulls beat the defending champion Crusaders at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
