Former Sevens specialist Fabian Juries will have to fill new kid on the block Cecil Afrika’s boots when the Griffons opens their Currie Cup First Division campaign against the Valke in Kempton Park on Saturday.

Juries will start at fullback after an outing on the left wing for the Griffons in their disastrous performance against the Lions.

Teenager Afrika, who has signed a SA Sevens contract, was a prolific try scorer for the Griffons and set a new provincial record earlier this year.

Former Shimlas scrumhalf Enrico Schultz also got a call-up after Clayton Gawie’s inept performance against the Lions.

Schultz made a big difference when he came on in the second half against the Lions. Only one change was made to the forwards where Albert Parsons gets a deserved start.

The former Kroonstad boy replaces Shaun Botha, who stood in for Bioplus van der Merwe at short notice when the latter preferred to represent the Eagles this season.

Griffons squad:

Fabian Juries; Darryl Coeries, Eddie Fredericks, Werner Griesel, Shane Hancke; Kennedy Tsimba, Enrico Schultz; Nicky Steyn ©, Marnus Briedenhann, Albert Parsons, Isak van der Westhuizen, Windpomp van Rooyen, Sewes Oosthuizen, Ashley Johnson, Petros Methula.

Reserves: Herchol Johnson, Kevin Stevens, Sandile India, Shaun Botha, Balla Slabbert, Tiaan van Wyk, Tertius Maarman.
