Blues loose forward Jerome Kaino is hoping to win back an All Black jersey and he feels the best way to do that is to have a big Super 14.

The 24-year-old has not worn the AB jersey since 2006 and knows if his team takes have a bumper Super 14, he’ll have a better chance of getting back his AB jersey.

‘It’s a huge rugby year for me,’ Kaino told RugbyHeaven before heading off on his Christmas break.

‘There were a lot of guys in my position that have left, so I think it’s time for me to step up my game and take another step towards the All Black jersey.

And also focusing on the Blues, hopefully we can go one step further and get into that grand final.’

‘I know I’ve got to step up off the field, and start taking the senior role that the likes of Angus Macdonald and Doug Howlett took.

It’s a bit of a scary thought, still being a young player, but I’m ready to take that step up.

‘It’s a new year, a new competition, and there are a lot of new players,’ says Kaino.

‘We just need to focus game by game and not pick the big games and let the smaller ones slip. When we think back it was games we didn’t really focus on where we slipped up.

If this team focuses on each week I’m sure we’ll do well.’ he said.
