The HSBC Waratahs have lost Wallaby centre Morgan Turinui for 3-6 weeks after he sustained medial knee ligament damage during training at Aussie Stadium today.

Turinui collapsed midway through the session and left the stadium in a brace.

‘Morgan’s leg got stuck in an awkward position during a contact session and it was immediately clear that he was in trouble,’ said head coach Ewen McKenzie.

‘Dr Sharron Flahive says the injury is a grade two medial strain that will likely sideline Morgan for the rest of our season.’

Turinui will undergo an MRI scan tomorrow to confirm the extent of the damage.

On a brighter note, scrumhalf Josh Valentine has improved dramatically since injuring his knee in last Saturday’s man-of-the-match performance against Queensland.

Valentine passed stage one of a fitness test today ahead of this weekend’s clash with the Highlanders at Aussie Stadium.

‘Josh has recovered remarkably well and we’ll have another look at him on Thursday before confirming our line-up,’ added McKenzie.
