Samoan rugby star Junior Leota has finally arrived in George on Thursday, coach Johann Lerm confirmed. “Yes, he is finally with us,” a relieved Lerm said.

Leota was expected to be in the Eagles camp three weeks ago but he was stranded in Australia while he was waiting for his New Zealand passport. “We tried everything we could to get him here earlier. It has been a very frustrating three weeks.

“But at least the long wait is over now,” Lerm said.

Leota could prove to be a massive acquisition for the Eagles. He is known for his brute strength and fearless tackling. The fact that the flexible New Zealander can play both prop and hooker makes him an even more valuable signing.

If Leota is fit enough, Lerm would obviously like to get him into the swing as soon as possible and it would come as no surprise if he starts from the bench when the Eagles take on the Pumas at Witbank in two weeks time.

Leota has also previously played for Western Province and the Stormers.
