Lions forced into changes following Bok call-ups

The Golden Lions have announced their team to face Western Province in this week’s Currie Cup fixture at Newlands on Saturday.

Coach Johan Ackerman has made three changes to his side’s starting line-up and five changes on the bench.

In the forwards, Jaco Kriel replaces Willie Britz at right flank as Britz is dropped to the bench.

In the backs, Butch James moves into the starting XV after Elton Jantjies was called up for Springbok duty. Dylan des Fountain also starts at centre after Jaco Taute was selected for the Springbok squad.

On the bench, Martin Bezuidenhout replaces Bandise Maku and Ruan Dreyer makes the match day 22 after CJ van der Linde was also named in the Springbok squad. Deon van Rensburg makes a welcome return from injury while James Kamana also warms the bench.

Andries Coetzee, Deon Helberg, Lionel Mapoe, Dylan des Fountain, Ruan Combrinck, Butch James, Michael Bondesio, Warren Whiteley, Jaco Kriel, Cobus Grobbelaar, Franco van der Merwe, Michael Rhodes, Jacobie Adriaanse, Callie Visagie, JC Janse van Rensburg.

Substitutes: Martin Bezuidenhout, Ruan Dreyer, Etienne Oosthuizen, Willie Britz, Ross Cronje, Deon van Rensburg, James Kamana.
