HIGHLANDERS V LIONS

After Six Rounds the Highlanders have still not won a match. The Lions on the other hand have not won since round one in South Africa. The House of Pain is never easy to visit and pick up a win so that won’t make things easier for the Lions who are coming off a bye. The Lions are also not good travelers.

5.00:  Fetu’u Vainikolo looked to have scored a try but lost the ball forward in the tackle.  

 

9.00: Craig Newby gave Johnny Leota a great pass and he went through to score the first points of the match.

 

10.00: The try was then converted.

 

14.00: Jaco van Schalkwyk scored the Lions first points of the match with a penalty.

 

28.00: Brett Mather picks up a knee injury but carries on as Aaron Bancroft warms up on the sideline.

 

30.00: Johnny Leota breaks stright through the Lions defence and scores his second try under the posts.

 

30.00: James Wilson converted the try.

 

39.53: The Siren goes for half time.

41.00 The Highlanders got a dream start as Paul Williams sliced through the Lions defence to score the Highlanders third try. The try was converted.

 

The Highlanders are now in the hunt for the bonus point try.

 

51.00: Overconfidence creeps into the Highlanders as the let in a try to the Lions.  Jaco van Schalkwyk is the try scorer.

 

52.00: Jaco van Schalkwyk converted his own try.

 

55.00: The Lions get right back into the match and score another try as Walter Venter dives over the line.

 

56.00: Jano Vermaak misses the conversion.

 

57.00: As the Lions charge back into the game Fetu’u Vainikolo is sent to the bin for a late charge.

 

59.00: Walter Venter breaks through the defence again and passes to Willem Alberts who scores the Lions third try.

 

The conversion is missed.

 

The Lions are now in the hunt for the bonus point try.

 

70.00: The Highlanders were awarded a penalty so James Wilson took a shot at goal and slotted teh kick to put the Highlanders four points ahead.

 

77.00: Aaron Bancroft scored the bonus point try for the Highlanders.

 

78.00: The conversion was missed.

 

80.00: The siren goes and the ball is booted out.
