Lions line up Bulls and Sharks warm ups

The Lions will start the 2008 Season with a big Super 14 Warm up test by playing both 2007 Super 14 finalists as part of their preparations for next year’s southern hemisphere provincial battle.

The Lions are scheduled to play the Bulls in Windhoek and it has now been revealed that they will also play the Sharks towards the end of January.

A date has not been finalised yet but it will happen before the match against the Bulls.

The Lions vs Bulls match has an added spice as the Bulls will be coached by former Lions coach Frans Ludeke.

“Because it will be Frans’s first match against the Lions, the clash will have some extra flavour,” Lions CEO Manie Reyneke told News 24.

“It will be an important match because we will be able to determine whether we are ready.”

The Lions’ preparations were on track, he added. “We had a training camp at Upington and things went smoothly, but for now the players and coaching team will first enjoy the holidays.

“The players will get together again on January 7. Then the hard work starts.”

Speaking about the player’s fitness he added that Andre Pretorius was the only player who was struggling with an injury (foot).

“He will probably be out of action for four weeks,” Reyneke said. “We hope he will be fit by the time the team reassemble.”

Reyneke also had some words about the Lions new signing Joe van Niekerk and said,

“Joe is very positive. He has joined in well and will certainly be a factor,” Reyneke added.
