The Lions have lost the services of captain Ernst Joubert for between two to six weeks meaning that they will start the Super 14 without their regular captain.
“We’ve been told that Ernst could be out for between two and six weeks but I think it will probably be three weeks,” Lions coach Eloff said to Beeld.
Joubert is not alone on the injury list as he is joined by Hooker Ethienne Reynecke, lock Anton van Zyl and scrumhalf Jano Vermaak.
“I am obviously disappointed that we cannot select those players but others now have an opportunity to show what they can do.” Eloff added.
“I may pick an interesting team for Saturday but I don’t want to say much about it now,” he said knowing that he will have to play combinations that he would not normally select.
