Lions lose Whiteley for Waratahs Super Rugby clash

The Lions have named their Super Rugby team to play the Waratahs in Sydney on Friday and have left out regular captain Warren Whiteley.

Whiteley was forced to withdraw from team selection shorrtly before the team was finalised due to a recurring knee injury.

Whiteley was expected to return to the Lions starting line up but his return has been delayed for at least a week.

As a result the Lions will be led by Franco Mostert in Whiteley’s absence and he will start in the number 7 jersey.

In other changes to the team Nic Groom will make his Lions Super rugby debut off the replacements bench and Harold Vorster starts at No 12 with Springbok Rohan Janse van Rensburg on the bench.

The Lions depart for Australia on Tuesday evening.
