Lions rely on experience for Sunwolves

Lions head coach Johan Ackermann has named an experienced team to play in their historic first ever Super Rugby match at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium in Tokyo against the Sunwolves.

Ackermann has opted for experience and shied away from blooding new caps in the starting team who will be captained by Warren Whiteley.

The most experienced Super Rugby players are Elton Jantjies at 54 and Whiteley with 52 caps followed by Lionel Mapoe (46) and Jaco Kriel (38).

On the bench newcomers to the competition include young front ranker Dylan Smith, loose forward Ruan Ackermann and back Rohan Janse van Rensburg who all had a taste of Currie Cup in 2015.
