The Golden Lions have again made adjustments to their fixtures in an ongoing attempt to secure matches against top-flight teams ahead of the Super Rugby promotion/relegation playoff.

The Golden Lions Rugby Union said in a statement on Thursday that games against Samoa, the Stormers and the Sharks would go ahead next month, but a scheduled fixture against the SA Barbarians on June 8 had been called off.

An additional match, however, against local rivals the Blue Bulls had been added to their schedule on July 6.

They will then face Griquas at Ellis Park, with French team Montepellier unavailable for a scheduled fixture on the same day, before home and away playoffs against the team that finishes bottom of the SA conference in the Super Rugby competitiom.

The Lions’ clash against Namibia was called off in February, and a tour of the United States, which included matches in California and Texas, was scrapped on the eve of the team’s departure last month.

The Lions will play the last placed team in the South African Conference and the winner will play in next year’s Super Rugby tournament.
