The Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) will start advertising this week for the services of a head coach that will be expected to get the Lions back to winning ways.

Current Lions Currie Cup coach Hans Coetzee could be one of the new applicants and GLRU president Kevin de Klerk said that he was hoping that Coetzee would apply.

“Hans applied for the post of Currie Cup coach, knowing that we would be advertising for the position of Super14 coach.” said De Klerk.

We want to complete the process as soon as possible because we have to start our preparations soon,”he told Sport 24.

De Klerk believes that the new appointment will be made “within weeks” and added that overseas applicants would be considered.

Jake White was brought in as a consultant but only for the Currie Cup and his contract will only run to the end of the the competition.

“My committees and I will then consider whether we will be utilising his services in future and whether our budget allows it. He has added a lot of value to the team,” De Klerk told Sport 24.

It is unlikely that White would apply for the job as he has never coached at Super 14 level.
