Hurricanes beat Lions in Johannesburg

The fourth match in Super Rugby Round 10 on Saturday is in Johannesburg where the Lions host the Hurricanes.

The match is underway.

1.00: The Hurricanes show an early intent to run the ball but there is a forward pass.

3.00: The scrum has to be reset. The Hurricanes win the scrum push but the Lions win the ball. The Lions lose the ball and the Hurricanes kick it away.

4.00: Lions win their line out and use the maul. They drive the ball into the Hurricanes 22. Penalty to the Lions. Jantjies kicks to the corner.

7.00: The Lions win the line out. They go through a couple of phases and Elton Jantjies cuts through the Canes but is just brought to ground. The ball is lost forward.

9.00: The Hurricanes win the scrum and attack the Lions. They work the ball into the Lions half. Dane Cole has a run but is caught and the Canes keep the ball alive. It goes wide to Julian Savea and he scores in the corner. TRY! The Lions go through huge blocks of possession and the Hurricanes score on their first visit to the opposition 22.

10.00: Beauden Barrett adds the conversion.

13.00: The Hurricanes pick off and intercept as the Lions attack and Matt Proctor races away to score. TRY!

14.00: Barrett adds the conversion.  The crowd has been silenced.

16.00: The Lions win a line out near the half way line but the Hurricanes are up in defence so quick the Lions lose ground. The Hurricanes turn the ball over and Barrett chips ahead. Perenara chases and the Lions knock on 5m out.

18.00: The Hurricanes win the scrum and Cory Jane slips through and scores. The TMO will have a look for obstruction by the referee. TRY!

19.00: Barrett adds the conversion and the Lions have a mountain to climb. The turf in Johannesburg is tearing up. Could be a factor later in the scrums.

21.00: The Lions go through 8 phases on attack. The whistle goes as Vaea Fifita is injured. He carries on.

25.00: Penalty to the Hurricanes in front from the scrum for offside. The Hurricanes will kick for posts.

26.00 Barrett nails the kick.

28.00: The Lions get the ball into the Hurricanes 22. Lionel Mapoe goes for the line and goes over whilst being tackled by Julian Savea. The TMO will review it. If no try there will be a penalty. Looks like it was held up. TMO says no try. Penalty for not retreating 10.

29.00: Jantjies kicks to the corner. The Lions win the line out and use the maul. They drive over and Armand van der Merwe is awarded the TRY!

30.00: Jantjies misses the conversion.

33.00: The Lions pass the ball down the line, Jantjies tries a high long ball but the Hurricanes intercept and Cory Jane races for the line and scores. TRY!

34.00: Barrett slots the conversion.

36.00: The Lions kick the ball for territory but it’s too big and the ball rolls out over the dead ball line.

38.00: The Hurricanes win a line out and Reggie Goodes powers along down the line and shoves off a defender and dives in to score. The TMO will review. Courtnall Skosan tried a shoulder charge tackle into touch but came off the worst of the two. The TMO says the try is good. TRY! Try No.5.

39.00: Barrett takes the conversion kick from the touchline. He misses.

40.00: The Hurricanes run the ball from the restart. The siren sounds but they play on. Barrett dabs the ball through but the Lions get the ball and counter. Eventually the Lions kick the ball into touch.

The Hurricanes kick off and the match is underway.

41.00: The Hurricanes kick to the corner and set up a line out. They win the line out and Dane Coles dives for the corner and scores. He is however called back for a forward pass. Lions 5m scrum.

42.00: The Lions win the scrum and clear the ball – to the Hurricanes who counter. The Lions win a penalty for not releasing.

43.00: Jantjies kicks for touch. the Lions win the line out. They run the ball but on the third phase the Hurricanes turn the ball over and kick upfield. The Lions boot it back and into touch.

45.00: The Lions get some attacking ball. Faf de Klerk chips the ball ahead, Ruan Combrinck grabs the ball and passes to Lionel Mapoe who runs in the TRY.

46.00: Jantjies adds the conversion.

48.00: The Lions attack in the Hurricanes 22 but they go off their feet and concede a penalty.

49.00: Barrett kicks for touch. Jeff Toomaga-Allen comes off and Chris Eves comes on.

51.00: Hurricanes win the line out. They boot the ball well downfield. Combrinck kicks it back so the Hurricanes boot it back.

53.00: The Lions try to keep the ball in the forwards and use the maul but it goes dead and the Hurricanes get the scrum put in.

54.00: Elton Jantjies is down injured. The game is paused. The grounds men try to fix the pitch in the meantime. Jantjies limps off and is replaced by JW Bell.

55.00: The game resumes with a scrum but the field just tears up. The ref summons the groundsmen to fix the “sandpit” as its a real hazard for running players.

56.00: The Lions win the scrum and run the ball into the Hurricanes 22. The Lions win a penalty for off the feet. The Lions tap it and attack on the 5m line.

58.00: The Hurricanes defend their line and kick the ball into touch. The Lions win the ball and use the maul to set up the attack for the backs.

59.0: The Lions keep the ball moving forward as they go through the phases and eventually it pays off and Jaco Kriel scores. TRY!

60.00: Jaco van der Walt misses the conversion.

63.00: The Hurricanes work the ball into the Lions half and then take it into touch. The Lions win the line out and run the ball. The Lions win a penalty for a knock on.

66.00: the Lions go through the phases and then the Hurricanes turn the ball over. Dane Coles powers away and offloads to Vince Aso who scores. TRY!

67.00:Barrett adds the conversion.

69.00: the Hurricanes get the ball from the scrum, they go wide and pass the ball out to Julian Savea and he races away and scores. TRY! Try number 7.

71.00: Barrett adds the conversion.

72.00: The Lions run the ball but drop it. Hurricanes scrum.

73.00: The Hurricanes win the scrum and Barrett kicks wide for Savea but he goes high for the ball and it goes into touch.

75.00: the Lions run the ball but they pass high and long and it goes to ground.

76.00: The Hurricanes move the ball down the line, the Lions stop them but the ball goes dead after the Lions turn it over and the Hurricanes have the put in.

79.00: The Lions have the ball near the half way line. They try to make ground but the Hurricanes push them back and turn the ball over.

80.00: The siren sounds and the ball is taken into touch.
