Former Stormers captain Luke Watson escaped unhurt after being involved in a car crash in Belville Cape Town on Monday afernoon.

The accident which was described as a “light accident” happened when another motorist allegedly skipped a red light and hit the front left corner of Watson’s black BMW.

Stormers spokesperson Frikkie Erasmus confirmed the incident and that Watson had not been injured and that the accident would not have an effect on him playing in the Super 14.

‘Nobody has been hurt. The front of Luke’s car has been damaged. There were some surprised onlookers when they saw Luke and some of his teammates at the scene,’ Erasmus told SuperSport.

Watson was reported to be calm afterwards and relieved that his car had not been reduced to a wreck.

‘The person drove over a red light. It was at the intersection of Jip de Jager Lane and Voortrekker Street. My teammates teased me as they came past,’ said Watson.

‘I am 100% fine. My car has been damaged, but it’s not a write-off.’

The Stormers regathered on Monday following the Christmas and New Year break and Watson’s accident occured when the Springbok was on his way home in rush-hour traffic.
