Reds coach Nick Stiles has opted to start Jake McIntyre at fly-half for this weekend’s Super Rugby match against the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.

McIntyre comes into the side after Quade Cooper was suspended for three weeks.

Coach Stiles has also opted to rotate some of his key players as flanker George Smith and lock Rob Simmons are both missing from the team sheet.

Even though the Reds are playing the leading team in the South African Group has stuck with his rotating squad plan.

Stiles brings in Adam Korczyk at No.7 while lock Izack Rodda comes in for Simmons. Former Brumbies captain Stephen Moore will lead the team.

Leroy Houston gets his first chance in the backrow ahead of Hendrik Tui and in the front row Markus Vanzati will start at prop.

James Tuttle takes over the 9 jersey pushing Nick Frisby down to the bench.

Stiles has also named two potential debutants on the bench in prop Kirwan Sanday and outside back Lachlan Maranta.

“We always knew we’d need to use a good mix of players over the course of these two tour games because it’s a grueling trip. We’ve also got the benefit of depth and genuine competition for spots, so it’s important to reward the players who have been working hard to crack into the side,” Stiles said.

“It’s going to be a challenging match. The Jaguares are similar to the Lions in a lot of ways, they love to run the ball. They’re also a very passionate side. They play with physicality and their heart on their sleeve. We know it’s going to be tough.”
