HSBC Waratahs Head Coach Ewen McKenzie has joined the NSW squad in Hamilton ahead of Saturday’s round two clash with the Chiefs.

McKenzie arrived in time for the Waratahs captain’s run at Waikato stadium following a stay in hospital to remove a kidney stone.

‘There’s some pain left over from the procedure but I had no problems getting the flight this morning and I’m glad it’s over,’ McKenzie said.

‘The guys looked in good spirits at this afternoon’s session so we’re all systems go for tomorrow.’

McKenzie was hospitalised on Wednesday night and was unable to travel with the squad on Thursday.

‘The other coaches and management team have done a great job in minimising the fuss around my situation. This is an important game for us and I definitely wanted to be here.’

But as McKenzie arrived the weather conditions deteriorated in Hamilton with the likelihood of rain on game day.

‘The weather really doesn’t bother us,’ added McKenzie.

‘Most of our pre-season involved a lot of wet weather so we believe we’re well prepared.’
