McMeniman out for 5-6 weeks

QR Queensland Reds lock Hugh McMeniman is expected to will miss 5-6 weeks of rugby with a strained right ankle, suffered in Saturday nights loss to the Crusaders.


“He has a high ankle strain and will be out for 5-6 weeks, although hopefully that’s the worst case scenario,” Reds Head Coach Eddie Jones said after conferring with team medical staff.


McMeniman underwent an MRI scan at St Andrew’s Hospital in Brisbane today after flying back from Christchurch yesterday afternoon.


McMeniman was stretchered off Jade Stadium in the final stages of Saturday’s round two Investec Super 14 match, as the Crusaders were closing out a 33-22 victory.


McMeniman has been one of the Reds best in the lineout and in open play on Saturday night and had been regaining top form since last years injury-disrupted season with shoulder and neck problems.


The Reds next engagement is against the ACT Brumbies at Suncorp Stadium next Saturday night.
