The Pumas have wasted no time in selecting new recruit MJ Mentz to start at fullback against the Mighty Elephants in Uitenhage on Saturday.

Mentz will start his first rugby game for the Pumas on Saturday, ousting hat-trick boy Shaun Venter, who moves down to the bench.

With ace goal-kicker Braam Pretorius and the Grey jersey’s top try-scorer Allister Ketteldas on the wings, coach Jimmy Stonehouse has opted for the speedy Mentz to start at 15.

Venter will also double up as the reserve scrumhalf from the bench with Jiffy Lamprecht probably covering the fullback position. Stonehouse has shown his faith in the rest of the starting XV that demolished the Valke.

Prop Ronnie Uys started working with the Pumas and will get a run as soon as he is familiar with the structures and the calls.

Pumas:

MJ Mentz; Braam Pretorius, Tiaan Marx, Jevon Botha, Allister Ketteldas; Valentine van Wyk, Jacques Coetzee; Doppies le Roux, Jaco Bouwer, Corné Steenkamp (capt), Marius Coetzer, Luhan Velthuizen, Ashley Buys, Hannes Franklin, Dawie Steyn.

Replacements: Dee-Jay Terblanché, Torsten van Jaarsveld, Eduaan van der Walt, Jacques Verwey, Gawie Marx, Jiffy Lampbrecht, Shaun Venter.
