Sireli Naqelevuki is almost certain to miss the Stormers’ opening Super 14 clash with the Sharks at Newlands after suffering a rib injury in the team’s warm-up fixture against Boland at the weekend.

Naqelevuki was part of a group of first choice players who came on after half time but left the filed a while later looking to be in some discomfort.

Stormers management confirmed on Sunday that an MRI scan had shown up a knock to the cartilage in the rib cage and that the injury would mean that it could keep him out for “two to four weeks”.

The good news for the Stormers is that there was no break so he could still make the Sharks game but would have to prove his fitness to coach Rassie Erasmus.

The injury is a blow for the Stormers as they have little cover in the specialist wing department.
